His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Roads Act 1993.

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to increase the mass allowable under the Road Transport (Mass, Loading and Access) Regulation 1996 for the driving axle of certain 2-axle buses that are designed to be accessible by wheelchairs.

The increase in that mass has been agreed to by all the Australian States and general regulation-making power) and 264A (National road transport regulations).

1     Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Road Transport (Mass, Loading and Access)
Amendment (Bus Load Limit) Regulation 2000.

2 Amendment of Road Transport (Mass, Loading and Access) Regulation 1996

The Road Transport (Mass, Loading and Access) Regulation 1996 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.

(Clause 2)

[1]     Schedule 1 Mass and loading requirements for heavy vehicles

Insert “(whether or not the complying bus is an ultra-low floor bus)” after
“two axles” in clause 2 (6) (a) (i).

[2]     Schedule 1, clause 2

Insert after clause 2 (9):

(10) In this clause and Table 1, ultra-low floor bus means a bus
that:
(a) is a complying bus, and
(b) is equipped with a stairless entry, and
(c) is designed to be accessible by wheelchairs, and
(d) is licensed to carry standing passengers.

[3]     Schedule 1, Table 1

Insert “(other than an ultra-low floor bus)” after “complying bus” in paragraph (b) of the last item under the heading “Single axles and single axle groups”.

[4]     Schedule 1, Table 1

Insert after paragraph (b) of the last item under the heading “Single axles and single axle groups”:

(b1) an ultra-low floor bus 11.0
