His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following
Regulation under the Road Transport Act 2013.

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to remove the provisions relating to the issue of registration labels for heavy vehicles. From 1 July 2018, heavy vehicles (like all other motor vehicles) will not be issued registration labels.
This Regulation is made under the Road Transport Act 2013, including Part 2 of Schedule 1 and section 23
(the general regulation-making power).

1 Name of Regulation
This Regulation is the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Amendment (Heavy
Vehicles) Regulation 2018.
2 Commencement
This Regulation commences on 1 July 2018 and is required to be published on the
NSW legislation website.

[1] Clause 11 Duration of registration
Omit “for any light vehicle” from clause 11 (3).
[2] Clause 16 Registration labels for certain registrable vehicles
Omit the clause.
[3] Clause 17 Replacement certificates of registration
Omit “registration document” wherever occurring in clause 17 (1) and (2).
Insert instead “certificate of registration”.[4] Clause 17 (3)
Omit the subclause.
[5] Clause 47 Procedures for suspension and cancellation of registration
Omit clause 47 (5). Insert instead:
(5) If the registration of a vehicle is cancelled, the registered operator must return any number-plates issued in respect of the registration to the Authority (or an agent nominated by the Authority) within 14 days after the registration is cancelled. Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units.
[6] Clause 129 Number-plate offences
Omit clause 129 (1). Insert instead:
(1) The driver of a registrable vehicle is guilty of an offence if the vehicle is used on a road or road related area with a number-plate affixed that was not issued by the Authority or was not issued for that vehicle. Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units.

Omit “or registration label” wherever occurring.
[8] Clause 142 Special provisions relating to boat trailers
Omit “registration label, holder for a registration label,” from the definition of affixed item in clause 142 (2).
[9] Clause 142 (2), definition of “affixing provision”
Omit “or a registration label or a holder for such a label”.
[10] Dictionary
Omit the definition of registration label.
