ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATIONS AMENDMENT (PILOTS OF OVER-DIMENSIONAL VEHICLES) REGULATIONS 1997 Made by His Excellency the Governor in Executive Council.
Citation
1. These regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic Regulations
Amendment (Pilots of Over-dimensional Vehicles) Regulations 1997.

Principal regulations
3. In these regulations the Road Traffic Code 1975* is referred to as the principal regulations. [* Reprinted as at 26 July 1995.

Regulation 103 amended
4. Regulation 103 (1) of the principal regulations is amended by inserting
the following definitions in the appropriate alphabetical positions -
a
"accredited pilot" means a person who has successfully completed a training course in the pilotage of over-dimensional vehicles, being a course which is -
(a) Accreditation Council as a training provider under provided by a person registered by the Training
Act 1996; and section 27 (1) (a) of the Vocational Education and Training (b) Act; accredited by that Council under section 27 (1) (b) of that
"over-dimensional vehicle" means a vehicle which exceeds the
maximum dimensions permitted under regulation 1108 of the
application of the Australian Design Rules); Road Traffzc (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1977 (by the

5. Regulation 202 (1) of the principal regulations is amended -
(a) after paragraph (b) by deleting "or";
(b) following - in paragraph (c) by deleting "vehicle," and substituting the " vehicle; or ";and
(c) after paragraph (c) by inserting the following paragraph - a
an accredited pilot, if the signal or direction given by
(d) the pilot is given -
(i) for the purpose of facilitating the movement of an over-dimensional vehicle being escorted by
the pilot; and
(ii) while the pilot is wearing a reflective vest of a
type approvedthe Commissioner of Police by by
notice published in the Gazette,
Regulation 203A inserted
6. After regulation 203 of the principal regulations the following regulation
is inserted -

Accredited pilots and drivers of escorted over-dimensional vehicles exempt from certain regulations
203A.
accredited pilot - (1) When an over-dimensional vehicle is being escorted by an
(a) regulations 501, 506 and 508 do not apply to the accredited pilot; and

(b) the pilot may, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in these regulations, stop, stand or park a vehicle being driven by him to escort the over-dimensional vehicle, at any place
and at any time,
if the pilot is acting in a safe and expedient manner.
accredited pilot — (2) When an over-dimensional vehicle is being escorted by an
(a)
regulations 501, 506 and 508 do not apply to the driver of the over-dimensional vehicle; and
(b)
the driver of the over-dimensional vehicle may, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in these regulations, stop, stand or park that vehicle at any place and at any time,
if he is acting in accordance with a direction given by the accredited
pilot and in a safe and expedient manner.
Road Traffic (Infringements) Regulations 1975 amended
7. The First Schedule to the Road Traffic (Infringements) Regulations 1975* is amended in item 11 by deleting "or ambulance officer"
and substituting the following —
, ambulance officer or accredited pilot ".

Road Traffic (Drivers' Licences) Regulations 1975 amended
8.
The Second Schedule to the Road Traffic (Drivers' Licences) Regulations 1975* is amended in item 3 by deleting "or ambulance officer"
and substituting the following —
ambulance officer or accredited pilot ".
