AN ACT to amend the Road Traffic Act 1974.

The Parliament of Western Australia enacts as follows:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Road Traffic Amendment (Power

Assisted Pedal Cycles) Act 1991.

Commencement

2.     This Act shall come into operation on such day as is fixed by

proclamation.

Section 5 amended

3. Section 5 of the Road Traffic Act 1974* is amended —

(a)

in the definition of "moped" by inserting after "pedal cycle" the following —

, but does not include a power assisted pedal

cycle

(b)

in the definition of "motor vehicle" by inserting after "to a motor vehicle" the following —

, but does not include a power assisted pedal

cycle

and

(c)

by inserting after the definition of "permit" the following definition —

CC

"power assisted pedal cycle" means a vehicle designed to be propelled through a mechanism operated solely by human power, to which is attached one or more auxiliary propulsion motors having a combined maximum output not exceeding 200 watts;
