Road Safety (Vehicles) (Hybrid Vehicles Amendment) Regulations 2007
The Lieutenant-Governor as the Governor's Deputy with the advice of the Executive Council makes the following Regulations:

1Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1999 to require that vehicles equipped to run on petrol and electricity be identified as hybrid vehicles.
2Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.
3Commencement
These Regulations come into operation on 2 April 2007.
4Definition
In regulation 105(1) of the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1999[1] insert the following definition—
"hybrid vehicle means a vehicle equipped to run on petrol and electricity;".
5Schedule 8 amended
(1)In Schedule 8 to the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1999—
(a)in the heading to Part 11 omit "LPG";
(b)in the Note at the foot of the heading to Part 11, for "that vehicles with LPG installed can be identified as LPG-powered vehicles" substitute "LPG-powered vehicles and hybrid vehicles can be identified".
(2)After clause 154 of Schedule 8 to the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1999 insert—
"154AHybrid vehicles
A hybrid vehicle must have fixed conspicuously to the front and rear number plates a label that is—
(a)made of durable material;
(b)at least 25 millimetres wide and 25 millimetres high;
(c)mounted as a diamond;
(d)reflective green;
(e)marked "HYBRID" in capital letters at least 6 millimetres high.".
