Road Safety (Vehicles) Amendment (Apprentice) Regulations 2022

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2021 to expand motor vehicle registration concessions for apprentices.

2Authorising provision

These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.

3Commencement

These Regulations come into operation on 1 March 2023.

4Schedule 2 amended

For paragraphs (a) and (b) in item 16 of the Table in Schedule 2 to the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2021[1] substitute

"(a)is an apprentice—

(i)within the meaning of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and the vocation of the apprentice is one to which sections 5.5.15(1), 5.5.16(2), 5.5.16(3), 5.5.16(4), 5.5.17(1)(d) and 5.5.19 of that Act apply; or

(ii)within the meaning of the South Australian Skills Act 2008 of South Australia; or

(iii)within the meaning of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 of New South Wales; and

(b)is participating in—

(i)an approved training scheme within the meaning of Part 5.5 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006; or

(ii)training required under a training contract (within the meaning of the South Australian Skills Act 2008 of South Australia) or a training plan (within the meaning of the South Australian Skills Act 2008 of South Australia); or

(iii)training required under a training contract (within the meaning of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 of New South Wales) or a training plan (within the meaning of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 of New South Wales); and".
