Road Safety (Road Rules) (Road Rules Modification No. 3) Regulations 2001

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to amend the modify the effect of the Road Rules so as to—

(a)	increase the penalties for contraventions of certain speed-limits; and
(b)	empower the Roads Corporation to exempt drivers of certain vehicles from the requirement that they make a vehicle secure before leaving it.

2. Authorising provision

These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.

3. Commencement

These Regulations come into operation on 1 July

2001.

4. Modifications to Road Rules

In Schedule 4 to the Road Safety (Road Rules)

Regulations 19991, after item 5 insert—

'6.	Rule 20 of the Road Rules is to be read as if for the penalty at the foot of the rule there were substituted—
"Penalty:  in the case of drivers of large vehicles,

12 penalty units;

in the case of drivers of vehicles other
than large vehicles, 6 penalty units.".

7.   Rule 213 of the Road Rules is to be read as if after subrule (4) there were inserted—

"(5) Subrule (3)(a) and (4) do not apply to the driver

of a vehicle acting in accordance with an
exemption from the application of those
subrules granted by the Corporation under

subrule (6).

(6) The Corporation may exempt a driver of a

vehicle or class of vehicles from the
requirements of subrule (3)(a) and (4) subject

to any conditions the Corporation thinks fit.".'.
