Regulations 1996
The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objectives
The objectives of these Regulations are—
(a)
to enable the Corporation to calculate demerit points from the date the relevant offence occurred; and
(b)
to replace a reference to the Magistrates (Summary Proceedings) Act 1975; and
(c)
to amend certain definitions for driver licensing purposes.
2. Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.
3. Commencement
These Regulations come into operation on the day on which section 10 of the Road Safety
Road Safety (Procedures) (Demerit Points) Regulations 1996

(Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 1995 comes
into operation.
4. Principal Regulations
In these Regulations, the 1Road Safety
(Procedures) Regulations 1988 are called thePrincipal Regulations.
5. Amendment of regulation 205
In regulation 205(3) of the Principal
Regulations—
(a)
in the definition of "heavy combination vehicle", in paragraph (b) omit "heavy";
(b)
in the definition of "light rigid vehicle", in paragraph (b) after "(including the driver)" insert "and does not exceed 8 tonnes maximum loaded mass".
6. Amendment of regulation 230
In regulation 230 of the Principal Regulations—
(a)
in sub-regulation (2)(d), for "Part VIIIA of the Magistrates (Summary Proceedings) Act 1975" substitute "Schedule 7 to the Magistrates' Court Act 1989"; and
(b) after sub-regulation (2) insert—
"(2A) Demerit points recorded under
sub-regulation (2) must be recorded as
having been incurred on the date on
which the relevant offence is alleged to
have occurred.".
