Road Safety (Procedures) (Amendment)

Regulations 1998

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objectives

The objectives of these Regulations are—

(a)	to increase the term of learner permits relating to motor vehicles other than motor cycles; and
(b)	to increase certain fees relating to driver licences, permits, log books, searches, certificates and extracts from records.

2. Authorising provision

These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.

3. Commencement

(1) These Regulations, except regulation 5, come into

operation on 1 April 1998.

(2) Regulation 5 comes into operation on 1 June

1998.

4. Principal Regulations

In these Regulations, the Road Safety
(Procedures) Regulations 19881 are called the
Principal Regulations.

5.  Term of learner permits relating to motor vehicles other than motor cycles

(1) In regulation 219(1) of the Principal Regulations,

for "3" substitute "10".

(2) In regulation 219(3) of the Principal Regulations, for "not capable of extension" substitute "capable of extension for a period not exceeding 10 years

and may be extended more than once".

(3) In regulation 219 of the Principal Regulations,

after sub-regulation (5) insert—

"(6) The amendment of this regulation by

regulation 5 of the Road Safety (Procedures)
(Amendment) Regulations 1998 applies to a
learner permit that is in force on or after

1 June 1998.".

6. Amendment of fees

(1) In Schedule 1 to the Principal Regulations—

(a) in item 4, for "19.00" substitute "20.00";
(b) in item 5, for "8.50" substitute "9.00";
(c) in item 6, for "15.00" substitute "15.50";
(d) in item 8, for "8.50" substitute "9.00";
(e) in item 9, for "28.00" substitute "29.50";
(f) in item 10, for "11.50" substitute "12.00";
(g) in item 17, for "15.00" substitute "15.50";
(h) in item 18, for "15.00" substitute "15.50";

(i) in item 19, for "11.50" substitute "12.00".

(2) In Schedule 7 to the Principal Regulations— (a) in item 1, for "6.00" substitute "6.50"; (b) in item 2, for "6.00" substitute "6.50"; (c) in item 3, for "11.50" substitute "12.00";

(d) in item 4, for "6.00" substitute "6.50";

(e) in item 5—

(i) for "6.00" substitute "6.50"; and
(ii) for "11.50" substitute "12.00".
