Amendment) Regulations 2001
The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to amend the
Road Safety (General) Regulations 1999—
(a) to increase certain infringement penalties for drivers of vehicles and riders of bicycles who disobey the Road Rules in respect of speed-limits and traffic lights; and (b) to update the traffic infringement offences in consequence of the enactment of the Road Safety (Alcohol and Drugs Enforcement Measures) Act 2001; and
(c)
to create an infringement for probationary drivers who fail to display "P" plates; and
(d)
to assign new infringement Codes to certain infringements.

2. Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 95 of the Road Safety Act 1986.
3. Commencement
(1) These Regulations, except regulation 6, come into
operation 1 July 2001.
(2) Regulation 6 comes into operation on 28 June
2001.
4. Principal Regulations
In these Regulations, the Road Safety (General)
Regulations 19991 are called the PrincipalRegulations.
5. Increase in certain traffic infringement penalties
In Schedule 4 to the Principal Regulations—
(a)
in the entry in respect of Code 1901, for "140" substitute "170";
(b)
in the entry in respect of Code 1902, for "220" substitute "265";
(c)
in the entries in respect of Codes 1903 and 1904, for "450" substitute "540";
(d)
in the entries in respect of Codes 1905 and 1906, for "900" substitute "1080";
(e)
in the entry in respect of Code 2001, for "165" substitute "200";
(f)
in the entry in respect of Code 2002, for "105" substitute "125";
(g)
in the entry in respect of Code 2003, for "220" substitute "265";
(h)
in the entry in respect of Code 2004, for "165" substitute "200";

In Schedule 4 to the Principal Regulations, for the entries in respect of Codes 2093 and 2094 substitute—
"2093 Drive or be in charge of motor RSA 49 240 vehicle with unlawful blood
alcohol level of less than
0·05 g/100 ml2094 Drive or be in charge of motor RSA 49 300". vehicle with blood alcohol
level of 0·05 or more but less
than
0·10 g/100 ml
7. New traffic infringement for probationary drivers who fail to display "P" plates
In Schedule 4 to the Principal Regulations, after the entry in respect of Code 2128 insert—
"2129 Fail to display 'P' plates when RS (D) R 105". required 217(1)
8. Certain infringements assigned new infringement Codes
In Schedule 4 to the Principal Regulations—
(a)
for the entry in respect of Code 2101 substitute—
