Road Amendment (Portable Traffic Light
Trailers) Rule 2018

Road Transport Act 2013
His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following
Rule under the Road Transport Act 2013.

Explanatory note
The objects of this Rule are:
| (a) | to allow a set of 2 portable traffic light trailers to be towed by a motor vehicle in certain circumstances, and |
| (b) | to provide that it is Roads and Maritime Services, instead of the Commissioner of Police, that may |
| authorise an articulated vehicle to tow another vehicle or a motor vehicle to tow more than 1 vehicle in certain circumstances. |
This Rule is made under the Road Transport Act 2013, including sections 23 (the general statutory rule-making power), 24 and 26 and Schedule 1.

1 Name of Rule
This Rule is the Road Amendment (Portable Traffic Light Trailers) Rule 2018.
2 Commencement
This Rule commences on 8 September 2018 and is required to be published on the
NSW legislation website.
3 Amendment of Road Rules 2014
(1) Rule 294–1 NSW rule: number of vehicles that may be towed together Omit “Commissioner of Police” from rule 294–1 (1). Insert instead “Authority”.
(2) Rule 294–1 (2) (c) Insert after rule 294–1 (2) (b):
(c) a motor vehicle that tows a set of 2 portable traffic light trailers if:
(i) the portable traffic light trailers are manufactured by the same manufacturer, and (ii) the portable traffic light trailers are registered, and
(iii) when being towed, the portable traffic light trailers are rigidly connected to each other and the centrelines of the axles of each trailer are not more than 2 metres apart, and
(iv) the portable traffic light trailers are not carrying a load.
(3) Rule 294–1 (4) Insert in alphabetical order: portable traffic light trailer means a single axle trailer that is
permanently fitted with traffic lights and that is designed to be towed
with another portable traffic light trailer.
