Research Involving Human Embryos and Prohibition of Human Cloning for Reproduction Regulation 2025

1   Short title

This regulation may be cited as the Research Involving Human Embryos and Prohibition of Human Cloning for Reproduction Regulation 2025.

2   Commencement

This regulation commences on 1 September 2025.

3   Accrediting entity for accredited ART centres—Act, s 21

For section 21 of the Act, definition accredited ART centre, the Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee of The Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand ACN 006 214 115 is prescribed.

4   Proper consent for use of excess ART embryos etc.—Act, s 21

For section 21 of the Act, definition proper consent, the following guidelines are prescribed—
(a)the guideline called ‘Ethical guidelines on the use of assisted reproductive technology in clinical practice and research’;
(b)the guideline called ‘National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research’.

5   Determination of application for licence—Act, s 29

For section 29(4)(c) of the Act, the following guidelines are prescribed—
(a)the guideline called ‘Ethical guidelines on the use of assisted reproductive technology in clinical practice and research’;
(b)the guideline called ‘National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research’.

6   Human embryos unsuitable for implantation—Act, schedule

For the schedule of the Act, definition unsuitable for implantation, paragraph (b), the guideline called ‘Ethical guidelines on the use of assisted reproductive technology in clinical practice and research’ is prescribed.

7   Repeal

The Research Involving Human Embryos and Prohibition of Human Cloning for Reproduction Regulation 2015, SL No. 95 is repealed.
