REMUNERATION (STATUTORY BODIES) ACT 1979

An Act relating to the payment of members of certain bodies

  1. Short title

    This Act may be cited as the Remuneration (Statutory Bodies) Act 1979.  (See back note 1)

  2. Commencement

    This Act shall come into operation on a date to be fixed by the Administrator by notice in the Gazette.  (See back note 1)

  3. Interpretation

    In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears –

    "Chairman", in relation to a statutory body, means the Chairman of that body;

    "member", in relation to a statutory body, means a member, however described, of that body and includes the Chairman of that body;

    "statutory body", means a body, whether incorporated or unincorporated, constituted or established by name by an Act for a public purpose, the members of which are appointed by virtue of that Act or by the Administrator or a Minister.

  4. Determinations

    (1)      The Administrator may, by instrument in writing, determine the remuneration or rate of remuneration and the allowances and expenses payable to a member of a statutory body in respect of his service as a member.

    (2)      A determination under subsection (1) may specify different remunerations, rates of remuneration, allowances and expenses for different members of a statutory body or by reference to a matter or class of matters specified in the determination.

  5. First determination

    The first determination under section 4 shall take effect on and from the day specified in the determination being a day not earlier than 1 October 1979.

  6. Repeals and savings

    (1)      The Acts listed in Column 1 of the Schedule are amended in the manner set out in Column 2 of the Schedule in relation to that Act.

    (2)      Notwithstanding the amendment of section 5 of the Electricity Commission Act, section 6 of the Housing Act and section 6 of the Ports Act effected by subsection (1), determinations made under section 5(6) of the Electricity Commission Act, 6(6) of the Housing Act and 6(8) of the Ports Act and in force immediately before the commencement of this Act continue in force and may be amended or revoked as though they had been made under the Electricity Commission Act, Housing Act and Ports Act respectively as those Acts are amended by this Act.
