Relationships Amendment (Recognition of Registered Relationships) Act 2010

An Act to amend the Relationships Act 2003

Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:

1Short titleThis Act may be cited as the Relationships Amendment (Recognition of Registered Relationships) Act 2010 . 2CommencementThis Act commences on a day to be proclaimed. 3Principal ActIn this Act, the Relationships Act 2003 is referred to as the Principal Act. 4Section 3 amended (Interpretation) Section 3 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting the definition of corresponding law . 5Part 6A insertedAfter section 65 of the Principal Act , the following Part is inserted: PART 6ARecognition of Relationships Under Corresponding Laws 65ARelationships registered under corresponding laws (1)  The parties to a relationship that is of a prescribed class and registered under a corresponding law are taken to be parties to a significant relationship that is registered under Part 2. (2)  In this section a reference to a "corresponding law" is a reference to a law of another State, a Territory or an overseas jurisdiction that is prescribed as a corresponding law. 6Repeal of ActThis Act is repealed on the ninetieth day from the day on which it commences.
