533 (^1tQPxI^.^iSXt^ ANNO VICESIMO SEPTIMO ELIZABETHAE SECUNDAE REGINAE No. 71 of 1978 An Act to amend the Registration of Births , Deaths and Marriages Act 1962-1977 in certain particulars [ASSENTED TO 8TH DECEMBER, 1978] BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1. Short title and citation . (1) This Act may be cited as the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Act Amendment Act 1978. (2) In this Act the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Act1962-1977 is referred to as the Principal Act. (3) The Principal Act as amended by this Act may be cited as the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Act1962-1978. 2. Commencement . This Act shall commence on a day to be fixed by Proclamation.

Section 22 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting after subsection (1A) the following subsection:- " (1B) On and from the commencement of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Act Amendment Act 1978, in making a certified copy of an entry in a register relating to the birth of a child, the Registrar-General or, as the case may be, a district registrar shall omit from that copy- (a) particulars of any surname of the mother (other than her surname at the date of the birth and her maiden surname) ; (b) particulars of any marriage of the father and of the mother; (c) particulars of any children of the father by any marriage (other than his marriage to the mother). Every certified copy made under this subsection shall, if otherwise correct, be deemed to be a true copy of the original entry in the register.". 4. Amendment of s. 26 . Section 26 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from subsection (2) the second paragraph and substituting the following paragraphs:- "The order shall contain the necessary particulars for the registration of the birth. It shall be lawful for a district registrar, upon receipt of such an order relating to a birth which happened in his district and on payment of the prescribed fee, to register that birth.".
