His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Registered Clubs Act 1976.

Explanatory note

Certain amendments made by the Registered Clubs and Liquor Legislation Amendment Act 1997, which will commence on 1 August 1997, enable the directors of a registered club to be elected on a biennial basis (ie 2 year terms of office) as an alternative to an annual election. The object of this Regulation is, as a consequence of those amendments, to provide that the existing rules of a registered club which only enable certain full members of the club to vote at an annual election of the club’s directors will also extend to a biennial election. This Regulation is made under the Registered Clubs Act 1976, including section 73 (the general regulation making power) and clause 1A of Schedule 2. | ||

Insert after clause 55:
55A Transitional provision—existing rules relating to full
members’ entitlement to vote at election of club
directorsIf, immediately before 1 August 1997, the rules sf a registered club provided, in accordance with section 30 (9) (a) of the Act, that a certain class or classes of the full members of the club only are entitled to vote at the annual election sf the governing body of the club, those rules are taken to also apply to and in respect of the election of the club’s governing body on a biennial basis in accordance with section 30 (1) (a) (ii) of the Act (as amended by the Registered Clubs and Liquor Legislation Amendment Act 1997).
