436 (I ueemilalIN ANNO VICESIMO SEPTIMO ELIZABETHAE SECUNDAE REGINAE No. 57 of 1978 An Act to amend the Railways Act 1914-1976 in a certain particular [ ASSENTED TO 22ND AUGUST, 1978] BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1. Short title and citation . (1) This Act may be cited as the Railways Act Amendment Act 1978. (2) In this Act the Railways Act 1914-1976 is referred to as the Principal Act. (3) The Principal Act as amended by this Act may be cited as the Railways Act 1914-1978. 2. New s. 8A. The Principal Act is amended by inserting after section 8 the following section:- " 8A. Power of Commissioner to be member of inter-State organisations , etc. (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in this or any other Act, the Commissioner may, with the approval of the Minister, become and be a member of- (a) Australian Railway Research and Development Organisation;

Railways Act Amendment Act 1978, No. 57 437 (b) any governmental or semi-governmental authority or body, the objects of which are to carry out, encourage or promote the undertaking of railway research including research into railway planning, location, design, safety, materials, construction, maintenance, structures, equipment, traffic, transport economics, administration, financing, management, accounting and any other matters affecting the provision, maintenance, use, protection and development of railways; and (c) any body, authority or association created or formed to encourage and foster co-operation amongst the Railway Authorities of the States and the Commonwealth in relation to the matters specified in paragraph (b) of this subsection. (2) Where pursuant to subsection (1) of this section the Commissioner is a member of an organisation, body, authority or association, the Commissioner may be a member of the directorate or other governing body. (3) The Commissioner may pay such contributions as membership of an organisation, body, authority or association referred to in subsection (1) of this section entails.".
