Radiocommunications Standards (Electromagnetic Compatibility) No. 1 of 19962 (Amendment No. 1 of 1997)

I, CHRISTINE MARY GOODE, Spectrum Manager, acting on behalf of the Spectrum Management Agency, make the following instrument of amendment under subsection 162 (1) of the Radiocommunications Act 1992.

1.   Amendment

1.1   The Radiocommunications Standards (Electromagnetic Compatibility) No. 1 of 1996 are amended as set out in this instrument.

[NOTE: This instrument commences on gazettal: see Radiocommunications Act 1992, s. 164.]

2.   Clause 5 (Standard for sound and television broadcast receivers and associated equipment)

2.1   Subclause 5 (1):

Omit the subclause, substitute:

             “5.   (1)    This clause applies to the performance, in the frequency band 9kHz to 1 GHz, of a device:

             (a)   that is:

   (i)   a video recorder; or

   (ii)   a video playback machine; or

   (iii)   a sound or television receiver, designed or intended to receive broadcast transmissions and other similar transmissions; and

             (b)   that is:

   (i)   designed or intended to be directly or indirectly connected to a low voltage mains electricity supply for the purpose of operating the device or charging a battery that is used to operate the device; or

   (ii)   designed or intended to be operated by a battery.”.

3.   Clause 7 (Standard for electric motor-operated and thermal appliances for household purposes, electric tools and similar electric apparatus)

3.1   Subclause 7 (2):

Omit “subclause”, substitute “clause”.

4.   Clause 8 (Standard for information technology equipment)

4.1   Paragraphs 8 (4) (b), (c) and (d):

Omit the paragraphs, substitute:

            “(b)   a device (other than telecommunications equipment) is class B ITE, and must comply with the class B ITE limits set out in the Standard, if:

   (i)   it is intended for household use; or

   (ii)   it has no fixed place of use; or

   (iii)   it is a personal computer; or

   (iv)   it is auxiliary equipment that is, or is intended to be, connected to a personal computer; and

             (c)   any other device is class A ITE, and must comply with the class A ITE limits set out in the Standard.”.

5.   Clause 12 (Standard for measuring levels of radio emissions)

5.1   Omit the clause, substitute:

           “12.   The performance of a device to which an Australian/ New Zealand Standard applies in accordance with this instrument must be measured in accordance with the arrangements in the relevant standard.”.
