Statutory Rules 1997   No. 271 __________________ Radiocommunications Standard (VHF Radiotelephone Equipment—Maritime Mobile Service) No. 1 of 1997 I, CHRISTINE MARY GOODE, Spectrum Manager, acting for the Spectrum Management Agency, make the following Standard under subsection 162 (1) of the Radiocommunications Act 1992. This Standard may be cited as the Radiocommunications Standard (VHF Radiotelephone Equipment—Maritime Mobile Service) No. 1 of 1997. [NOTE: This Standard takes effect on gazettal: see Radiocommunications Act 1992, s. 164.] Repeal of Ministerial Standard 274                2.   Statutory Rules 1990 No. 263 are repealed. Application                3.   This Standard applies to radiocommunications devices that are capable of operating on a carrier frequency set out  in Table ZZ.1 of the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4415:1996. Standard                4.   (1) For paragraph 162 (1) (a) of the Radiocommunications Act 1992, the standard for performance is the standard set out in Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4415:1996, as in force when this Standard takes effect, other than the following provisions:              (a)   clause 1;              (b)   subclause 3.1, paragraphs 1 to 4;              (c)   subclause 3.3;              (d)   subclause 3.4;              (e)   subclause 3.5;               (f)   subclause 3.7;              (g)   subclause 3.8;              (h)   subclause 3.9;               (i)   subclause 3.10;               (j)   subclause 4.6;              (k)   subclause 5.8;               (l)   subclause 6.11;             (m)   subclause 7.1;              (n)   subclause 7.2;              (o)   subclause 7.4;              (p)   subclause 7.10;              (q)   subclause 7.11;               (r)   subclause 7.13;              (s)   subclause 7.14.              (2)   For the application of Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4415:1996, subclause 3.2 of the Standard is modified by omitting the words after paragraph 2 and substituting: “The equipment must have the following additional controls:              (a)   a switch for reducing transmitter carrier power to no more than 1W;              (b)   a squelch control.”. _____________________________________________________ NOTE 1.   Notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 5 March 1997.
