s1 2 s3 Radioactive Substances Amendment (No. 1) No. 92, 1999 ˙ Short title 1. This regulation may be cited as the Radioactive Substances Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 1999 . ˙ Regulation amended 2. This regulation amends the Radioactive Substances Regulation 1961 . ˙ Amendment of s 3 (Definitions) 3.(1) Section 3, definition “KBq”— omit . (2) Section 3— insert — ‘ “kBq” means a kilobecquerel’. (3) Section 3, definition “curie”, ‘1010’— omit, insert — ‘10 10 ’. (4) Section 3, definition “microcurie”, ‘ µ c’— omit, insert — ‘ µ Ci’. (5) Section 3, definition “microsievert”, ‘ µ SV’— omit, insert— ‘ µ Sv’. (6) Section 3, definition “millisievert”, ‘mSV’— omit, insert— ‘mSv’.

Section 4(2), ‘KBq’— omit, insert — ‘kBq’. ˙ Insertion of new s 17A 5. Part 3, before section 18— insert — ˙ ‘ Definition for pt 3 ‘ 17A. In this part— “smoke detector” means an ionisation chamber smoke detector containing a radioactive substance as a component of the smoke detecting element.’. ˙ Insertion of new s 19 6. After section 18— insert — ˙ ‘ Exemptions for possession etc. of smoke detectors—Act, s 13(1) ‘ 19. A person is not required to hold a licence under section 13(1) of the Act to— (a) possess or use a smoke detector; or (b) sell or transport a smoke detector with an activity not greater than 37 kBq.’. ˙ Amendment of sch 1 (Radioactive nuclides—prescribed minimum amount) 7. Schedule 1, column 2, ‘KBq’— omit, insert — ‘kBq’.
