s1 2 s3 Radioactive Substances Amendment (No. 1) No. 261, 1996 ˙ Short title 1. This regulation may be cited as the Radioactive Substances Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 1996 . ˙ Regulation amended 2. This regulation amends the Radioactive Substances Regulation 1961 . ˙ Amendment of s 3 (Definitions) 3.(1) Section 3, definition “radiation dose equivalent” — omit. (2) Section 3— insert— ‘ “appropriately qualified” , for an officer or employee of the department to whom a power under this regulation may be delegated, includes having the qualifications, experience or standing appropriate to exercise the power. Example of ‘standing’— A person’s classification level in the public service. “radiation dose equivalent” see section 3AA.’. (3) Section 3, definition “absorbed dose” , ‘. It shall be expressed’— omit, insert— ‘, expressed’. (4) Section 3, definition “air dose” , ‘. It shall be expressed’— omit, insert— ‘, expressed’. (5) Section 3, definition “curie” , second sentence— omit .

After section 3— insert— ˙ ‘ Meaning of “radiation dose equivalent” ‘ 3AA.(1) “Radiation dose equivalent” , at a point in tissue, is calculated by using the following equation— H=D ∂ N where— D =the absorbed dose ∂ =the effective value of a quality factor and takes on different values for various types of primary radiation N =the product of all other modifying factors. ‘ (2) For subsection (1)— (a) N has the assigned value of 1; and (b) ∂ has the value given in schedule 3 for internal and external radiation.’. ˙ Omission of s 5 (Forms) 5.
