s1 2 s3 Radioactive Substances Amendment (No. 1) No. 288, 1995 ˙ Short title 1. This regulation may be cited as the Radioactive Substances Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 1995 . ˙ Regulation amended 2. This regulation amends the Radioactive Substances Regulation 1961 . ˙ Amendment of s 3 3.(1) Section 3, definitions “chief health officer” , “council” , “microrad” , “microroentgen” , “millicurie” , “millirad” , “milliroentgen” , “rad” and “roentgen” — omit. (2) Section 3, definition, “absorbed dose” , ‘rads’— omit, insert— ‘grays’. (3) Section 3, definition, “air dose” , ‘roentgens’— omit, insert— ‘coulombs per kg’. (4) Section 3— insert— ‘ “becquerel” means the unit of radiation equal to 1 transformation per second. “Bq” means a becquerel. “GBq” means a gigabecquerel. “gigabecquerel” means 1 000 000 000 becquerels. “gray” means the unit of absorbed dose and is equal to 1 joule per kilogram of irradiated material. “Gy” means a gray. “KBq” means a kilobecquerel.
s4 3 s7 Radioactive Substances Amendment (No. 1) No. 288, 1995 “kilobecquerel” means 1 000 becquerels. “MBq” means a megabecquerel. “megabecquerel” means 1 000 000 becquerels.’. ˙ Insertion of new s 3A 4. After section 3— insert— ˙ ‘ Conversion factor for schedule 2 ‘ 3A. For the purpose of converting schedule 2 to metric measurements, the radioisotope concentrations stated in schedule 2, columns 2 to 5 may be converted to becquerels per m 3 by multiplying the radioisotope concentrations by 3.7 x 10 10 .’. ˙ Amendment of s 4 (Prescription of irradiating apparatus and radioactive substances) 5.(1) Section 4(2), ‘10 microcuries’— omit, insert— ‘370 KBq’. (2) Section 4(2), ‘2 x 1 / 1000 of a microcurie’— omit, insert— ‘74 Bq’. ˙ Amendment of s 47 6. Section 47, ‘1 curie’— omit, insert— ‘37 GBq’. ˙ Amendment of s 77 7. Section 77(3), ‘shown in Schedule 5, Form No. 1 and Form No. 2’—
