Citation

1. These regulations may be cited as the Radiation Safety (General)

Amendment Regulations (No. 3) 1993.

Principal regulations

2. In these regulations the Radiation Safety (General) Regulations 1983*

are referred to as the principal regulations.

Regulation 3 amended

3. Regulation 3 (1) of the principal regulations is amended in the definition of "laser" by deleting "exceeding 250 nm, but not exceeding 13 000 nm, in

Schedule I amended

4.  Schedule I to the principal regulations is amended by deleting item 2

and substituting the following item —

2.  (1) Persons occupationally or non-occupationally exposed to

the following radiations shall not be exposed to —

(a) 50/60 Hz electric and magnetic fields which exceed

the limits specified in the publication entitled "Interim Guidelines on Limits of Exposure to 50/60 Hz Electric and Magnetic Fields (1989)" published by the NHMRC in December 1989;

(b) radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation with

frequencies from 100 kHz to 300 GHz which exceed the limits specified in the publication entitled "Radiofrequency Radiation Part 1: Maximum Exposure Levels — 100kHz to 300GHz" published as Australian Standard AS 2772.1 — 1990 by the Standards Association of Australia in 1990; or

(c) ultraviolet radiations with wavelengths from 180 nm to 400 nm which exceed the limits specified in the publication entitled "Occupational Standard for Exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation (1989)" published by the NHMR,C in December 1989.

(2) Subitem (1) (b) does not apply to exposure resulting from the normal operation of microwave ovens which comply with the radiation emission limit.

Schedule VII amended

5. Schedule VII to the principal regulations is amended in item 1 by

deleting "less than 750 watts" and substituting the following —

not more than 1000 watts
