RADIATION SAFETY (GENERAL) AMENDMENT

REGULATIONS (NO. 2) 1991

Made by His Excellency the Governor in Executive Council.

Citation

1. These regulations may be cited as the Radiation Safety (General)

29 November 1991] GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, WA 5989

Commencement

2. These regulations shall come into operation on 1 January 1992.

Principal regulations

3.  In these regulations the Radiation Safety (General) Regulations 1983*

are referred to as the principal regulations.

Regulation 3 amended

4.   Regulation 3 of the principal regulations is amended by inserting in the

appropriate alphabetical positions the following definitions —

"industrial radiographer" means a licensee who holds a licence which specifies that the purpose of the licence is industrial radiography;

"licence card" means a card issued in the form set out in Form

RS16 of Schedule II;

Regulation 10 (1) amended

5. Regulation 10 (1) of the principal regulations is amended —
(a) by deleting "and" after paragraph (b);

(b)

by deleting the full stop after paragraph (c) and substituting the following —

;and " ; and

(c) by inserting the following paragraph after paragraph (c) —

(d)

where the applicant seeks approval to carry out industrial radiography, deliver with the application 2 passport sized colour photographs of the head and shoulders of the applicant, dated and signed on the back by the applicant.

Regulation 10A inserted

6.   After regulation 10 of the principal regulations the following regulation

is inserted —

Industrial radiographers to
carry and produce licence cards
10A. (1) An industrial radiographer shall carry a licence card
while carrying out any work with irradiating apparatus or
radioactive substances.

(2) An industrial radiographer shall, on the request of an authorized officer, produce a valid licence card issued to the industrial radiographer for inspection by the authorized officer.

(3) A licence card is valid at any time before the expiry date

set out on the card...

(4) This regulation applies in respect of each individual radiographer only after a licence card has been furnished to that radiographer under regulation 59(16).

Regulation 59 amended

7. Regulation 59 of the principal regulations is amended by inserting after

subre ation (15) the following subregulation —

(16) The Council shall, on granting a licence or renewal of licence in respect of radioactive substances or irradiating apparatus to a person who is or who is applying to be an industrial radiographer, furnish that person with a licence card on Form RS16.

Schedule II amended

8. After Form RS15 in Schedule II to the principal regulations the following

Form is inserted —

holds a licence under the Act for the
use of

RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES (LS / ) IRRADIATING APPARATUS (LX / )

(Delete whichever is not applicable)

for the purpose of INDUSTRIAL

RADIOGRAPHY

Licences held under Activity Limits
the Radiation Safety Act
1975 are subject to all
applicable regulations
under the Act and to any
conditions, restrictions Expiry date
or limitations imposed when the
licence was issued.
