Radiation Safety Amendment Regulation 2023 (Qld)

1   Short title

This regulation may be cited as the Radiation Safety Amendment Regulation 2023.

2   Commencement

This regulation commences on 15 November 2023.

3   Regulation amended

This regulation amends the Radiation Safety Regulation 2021.

4   Insertion of new s 58A

After section 58—
insert—

58A   Exposure of particular persons—Act, s 42A

For section 42A(2) of the Act, the following radiation dose limits are prescribed for ionising radiation—

(a)for the occupational exposure of an adult—a total effective dose of 20mSv in any 12-month period;

(b)for the occupational exposure of a person who is 16 or 17 years—a total effective dose of 6mSv in any 12-month period;

(c)for the public exposure of a person—a total effective dose of 1mSv in any 12-month period.

(1)This section applies if—

(a)a person has been administered a radionuclide as part of a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure; and

(b)as a result of the procedure, some or all of the radionuclide or its progeny is in the person’s bodily waste.
