REGULATIONS UNDER THE PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE ACT 1913-1965.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Public Works Committee Act 1913-1965.

Amendments of the Public Works Committee Regulations 

Witnesses fees and expenses.

1. Regulation 5 of the Public Works Committee Regulations is repealed and the following regulations are inserted in its stead:—

“5. The prescribed scale for the purpose of section 27 of the Act is the scale in the Schedule to these Regulations.”.

Assessors remuneration.

“5a.—(1.) The prescribed scale for the purposes of sub-section (2.) of section 32 of the Act is $10.50 per day to $52.50 per day.

“(2.) An assessor who is required to travel for the purposes of advising the Committee or a Sectional Committee shall be paid a reasonable amount for the costs of his conveyance and, if he is required to be absent overnight from his usual place of residence, a reasonable amount for accommodation and sustenance.”.

Prescribed allowances.

2. Regulation 6 of the Public Works Committee Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (1.) the words “Five pounds five shillings” and inserting in their stead the words “Ten dollars and fifty cents”;

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (1.) the words “Four pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Eight dollars”;

(c) by omitting from sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (1.) the words “Six pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Twelve dollars”;

(d) by omitting from sub-paragraph (ii) of paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (1.) the words “Eight pounds ten shillings” and inserting in their stead the words “Seventeen dollars”; and

(e) by omitting from sub-regulation (3.) the words “One pound” and the words “One pound one shilling” and inserting in their stead the words “Two dollars” and the words “Two dollars and ten cents”, respectively.

The Schedule.

3. The Schedule to the Public Works Committee Regulations is repealed and the following Schedule inserted in its stead:—

“THE SCHEDULE

Regulation 5.

WITNESSES’ FEES AND TRAVELLING EXPENSES.

Allowance per day

Witnesses called because of their professional, scientific or other special skill or knowledge............................................................................................

$10.50 to $52.50

Other witnesses................................................................................................

$ 6.00

or, if remunerated by wages, salary or fees, the amount of wages, salary or fees lost by reason of the attendance, but not exceeding

$16.00

In addition to the above allowance—

(a) a reasonable amount for the costs of conveyance to and from the place where he attends to give evidence and, if he is required to be absent overnight from his usual place of residence, a reasonable amount for accommodation and sustenance; and

(b) in respect of a witness called to give expert evidence—a reasonable amount for qualifying to give evidence.”.
