Amendments of the Public Service Regulation
“(6a) Where an officer is undergoing a course of study as an external student at a University or other institution, and is required by the University or other institution, as a condition precedent to the officer being allowed to present himself for examination in a subject in that course, to attend as a residential student to the University or other institution for period longer than one week, the Chief Officer may grout to the officer leave of absence with pay for a period not exceeding the study leave credit of the officer immediately before the commencement of the leave.

“(6b) Subject to sub-regulation (6c), for the purposes of sub-regulation (6a), there accrues to an officer who is undergoing a course of study as an external student at a University or other institution a study leave credit, or an addition to his study leave credit, of a period equivalent to the period of his ordinary hours of duty during aperiod of one week in respect of each subject or unit or in respect of every two semester subjects or units successfully completed.
“(6c) Where an officer has been granted leave of absence under sub-regulation (6) in respect of a subject, no study leave credit or addition to study leave credit shall accrue to him in respect of that subject under sub-regulation (6b).”.
“(1) In this regulation ‘examination’ means a supervised examination—
(a) relating to, or forming part of, the course of study or the short course of instruction of an officer who is eligible for the reimbursement of fees paid in respect of the course under Division 111a of Part III;
(b) held by, or on behalf of, the Board under the Act; or
(c) approved by the Board for the purpose of this regulation.”.
“(5) Where an officer whose application under regulation 100bin respect of a course of study or a short course of instruction has been approved by his Permanent Head, and who has satisfied the requirements of paragraph (1) (b), dies or is retired on the ground that, by reason of injury or illness, he is unfit to discharge or incapable of discharging the duties of his office—
(a) prior to the completion of the final examination in the subject or subjects undertaken in the academic year or prior to the completion of the course; or
(b) after completion of the final examination in the subject or subjects undertaken in the academic year or after completion of the course, where the officer has passed in the subject or subjects or has otherwise satisfactorily completed the course,
theofficer or the officer’s dependants, as the case may be, is or are entitled to reimbursement of the fees paid by the officer in the prescribed period to which the approval relates.
“(6) Where an officer whose application under regulation 100b in respect of a course of study or a short course of instruction has been approved by his PermanentHead, and who has satisfied the requirements of paragraph (1) (b), is directed by his Permanent Head, prior to the completion of the final examine nation in the subject or subjects undertaken in an academic year or to the completion of the course, to undertake duties which will preclude the officer from continuing his course during the prescribed period, the officer as entitled to reimbursement of the fees paid by hint in the prescribed period to which the approval relates.”.
