Public Service Regulations2 (Amendment)

THE PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD, acting in pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred upon it by the Public Service Act 1922, hereby makes, subject to the approval of the Governor-General, the following Regulation.

Reimbursement of fares—remote districts

Regulation 98 of the Public Service Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting sub-regulations (1), (2), (3) and (4) and substituting the following sub-regulations:

“(1) Where—

(a) an officer who is permanently stationed in a prescribed isolated district within the meaning of regulation 49 travels, while on leave of absence, between his station and the nearest capital city or a destination of lesser distance; or

(b) a dependant or dependants of the officer residing with him travels or travel, at any time, between the station of the officer and the nearest capital city or a destination of lesser distance,

the Chief Officer may, subject to sub-regulation (2) reimburse the officer an amount equal to the amount by which the cost of return fares reasonably incurred by the officer in respect of—

(c) travel undertaken in accordance with paragraph (a) by the officer; and

(d) travel undertaken in accordance with paragraph (b) by the dependant or dependants of the officer referred to in that paragraph,

exceeds $50.

“(2) For each 2 years of service by an officer in a prescribed isolated district within the meaning of regulation 49, the officer shall not, under sub-regulation (1), be granted reimbursement in respect of—

(a) the cost of more than one return fare in respect of travel by the officer; or

(b) the cost of more than one return fare in respect of travel by each dependant of the officer residing with him.

“(3) Nothing in this regulation authorizes in respect of any period of 2 years the reimbursement to more than one officer of any amount in respect of travel by any one person.”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (5) “sub-regulation (2), (3) or (4) of this regulation, as the case may be” and substituting “sub-regulation (1)”;

(c) by omitting sub-regulation (7a); and

(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (8) “regulation 49A of these Regulations” and substituting “regulation 49”.
