I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby approve the following Regulations.

“91. (1) For the purposes of regulations 92, 93, 95, 96 and 97, ‘relevant officer’ means:
(a) Meat Inspector, Grades 1-6 (inclusive);
(b) Assistant Fruit Inspector;
(c) Fruit Inspector;
(d) Senior Fruit Inspector, Grades 1-3 (inclusive);
(e) Veterinary Officer, Classes 1 and 2.
“(2) For the purposes of regulations 92, 93, 95 and 96, ‘public transport’ does not include transport by taxi.
“92. Fares paid by a relevant officer on the first occasion on a day when he travels by public transport by a reasonably direct route from his residence to his place of duty to perform that duty and back to his residence shall be reimbursed—
(a) where his residence is within the metropolitan area of a capital city of a State or of an internal Territory—to the extent of any excess beyond the minimum amount of the fares that would be payable for such travel if that place of duty were the principal office of the Department in that capital city and if concessional fares were not available for such travel; or
(b) in any other case—an amount calculated in accordance with the formula—
A x B
where—
A is the amount so paid per kilometre so travelled less 3 cents per kilometre so travelled; and
B is the number of kilometres so travelled.
“93. Fares paid by a relevant officer on the second or a subsequent occasion on a day when he travels by public transport by a reasonably direct route from his residence to his place of duty and back to his residence shall be reimbursed if he so travels to perform—
(a) a period of overtime duty after the completion of a period of ordinary duty; or
(b) a period of ordinary duty after the completion of a period of overtime duty.
“94. Notwithstanding anything contained in regulation 95 or 96, the number of kilometres in respect of which an allowance is payable per round trip to and from duty under regulation 95 or 96 shall not be less than 1.6 or greater than 32.
“95. Where on a day a relevant officer uses his motor vehicle to travel by a reasonably direct route from his residence to his ordinary place of duty to perform that duty and back to his residence, being travel for which public transport is not available, he shall be paid an allowance for the first occasion on that day when he so travels at whichever rate specified in the following table applies in respect of that vehicle:

“96. Where on a day a relevant officer uses his motor vehicle on a second or subsequent occasion to travel by a reasonably direct route from his residence to his ordinary place of duty and back to his residence, being travel for which public transport is not available, he shall be paid an allowance if he so travels to perform—
(a) a period of overtime duty after the completion of a period of ordinary duty; or
(b) a period of ordinary duty after the completion of a period of overtime duty,
at whichever rate would apply in respect of that vehicle if the table in regulation 95 were applicable and if for the rates in Column 4 of that table, in Items 1, 2, 3 and 4 of that table, there were substituted the rates of 17.5 cents, 15.0 cents, 12.6 cents and 11.2 cents respectively.
“97. (1) Where a relevant officer—
(a) is directed to perform duties temporarily at a place other than his ordinary place of duty; and
(b) uses his motor vehicle to travel by a reasonably direct route from his residence to that first-mentioned place to perform that duty and back to his residence,
he shall be paid an allowance, for each occasion when he so travels, at whichever rate specified in the following table applies in respect of that vehicle:

“(2) The allowance payable under this regulation for each occasion on which an officer uses his motor vehicle shall not exceed the total amount of the allowance to which he would have been entitled if on that occasion he had been absent overnight from his headquarters within the meaning of Public Service Board Determination 1983/10 and if sub-clauses 4.1.2 (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) and (7) of that Determination had been applicable in respect of that absence.”.
