I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby approve the following Regulation.

After regulation 176 of the Public Service Regulations the following regulation is inserted:
“177. (1) The offices of—
(a) Director of Legal Aid created under the
Legal Aid Act 1978 of the State of Queensland;(b) Assistant Director of Legal Aid created under that Act;
(c) Director of Legal Aid created under the
Legal Aid Commission Act 1978 of the State of Victoria; and(d) Director of Legal Aid created under the
Legal Aid Commission Act, 1976 of the Suite of Western Australia,
are prescribed for the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of ‘public office’ in sub-section 87 (1) of the Act.
“(2) The office of Director of Legal Services created under the Legal Services Commission Act, 1977 of the State of South Australia, the holder of which is appointed by the Legal Services Commission under that Act, is prescribed for the purposes of paragraph (c) of the definition of ‘public office’ in sub-section 87 (1) of the Act.
“(3) This regulation applies in relation to an office only while it is held by a person who immediately before appointment to that office was—
(a) a member of the staff of the Australian Legal Aid Office; or
(b) a member of the staff of a Legal Aid Commission or Legal Services Commission of a State and immediately before becoming such member was a member of the staff of the Australian Legal Aid Office.”.
