REGULATION UNDER THE PUBL1C SERVICE ACT 1922*

THE PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD, acting in pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred upon it by the Public Service Act 1922, hereby makes, subject to the approval of the Governor-General, the following Regulation.

AMENDMENT OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE REGULATIONS*

After regulation 81a of the Public Service Regulations the following regulation is inserted in Division II of Part III:

Class of air travel

“ 82. (1) Where an officer or employee is required to undertake travel by air in Australia—

(a) for the purpose of performing or undertaking at a place other than his headquarters duties or work connected with the duties or work that he ordinarily performs or undertakes at his headquarters;

(b) for the purpose of performing at such a place the duties of a member of a Promotions Appeal Committee (being a member referred to in paragraph 109d (1) (b) or (c)) or a member of an Appeal Board referred to in section 55 of the Act or a Board of Inquiry referred to in section 56 of the Act; or

(c) for the purpose of conducting any interview in relation to the appointment or employment of a person under the Act, the transfer or promotion of an officer, or the giving of a direction under regulation 116,

he shall, if both First Class air travel and Economy Class air travel are available, be provided with—

(d) in the case of an officer occupying, or performing the duties of, an office in the First or Second Division or an employee performing similar work to such an officer—First Class air travel; and

(e) in the case of any other officer or employee—Economy Class air travel.

“ (2) Where, but for this sub-regulation, an officer or employee would be provided, in accordance with sub-regulation (1), with Economy Class air travel in respect of any travel by air that he is required to undertake, the officer or employee shall, if the Permanent Head is of the opinion, having regard to the special nature of the duties or work being performed or undertaken by the officer or employee (being duties or work of a kind approved by the Board for the purposes of this sub-regulation), that the officer or employee should be provided with First Class air travel, be provided with First Class air travel.

“ (3) In this regulation, ‘ headquarters ’ has the same meaning as in Division I of Part III.”.
