REGULATIONS UNDER THE PUBLIC SERVICE ACT 1922-1955.*

WHEREAS by sub-section (3.) of section three of the Salaries Adjustment Act 1956 it is provided that regulations may be made under the Public Service Act 1922-1955 for purposes of or in relation to a reclassification referred to in sub-section (1.) of that section of offices to which the latter Act applies and that regulations so made shall be deemed to have come into operation on the tenth day of January, 1956:

Now therefore I, the Governor-General in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, on the recommendation of the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, hereby make, by virtue of the Salaries Adjustment Act 1956, the following Regulations under the Public Service Act 1922-1955.

Rates of travelling allowance.

1. Regulation 57 of the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is amended by omitting the table in sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in its stead the following table:—

Overtime.

2. Regulation 65 of the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a)of sub-regulation (5.) the figures “£1,142” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,173”;

(b)by omitting from paragraph (b)of sub-regulation (5.) the figures “£988” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,019”;

(c) by omitting from sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (a)of sub-regulation (8.) the figures “£1,814” and inserting in their stead the figures “£2,053”; and

(d) by omitting from sub-paragraph (ii) of paragraph (a)of sub-regulation (8.) the figures “£1,660” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,899”.

Sunday duty.

3. Regulation 65B of the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (6.) the figures “£1,142” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,173”;

(b)by omitting from paragraph (b)of sub-regulation (6.) the figures “£988” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,019”;

(c) by omitting from paragraph (a)of sub-regulation (7.) the figures “£1,814” and inserting in their stead the figures “£2,053”; and

(d) by omitting from paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (7.) the figures “£1,660” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,899”.

Calculation of pay for duty on a holiday.

4. Regulation 65C of the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (4.) the figures “£1,142” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,173”;

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (4.) the figures “£988” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,019”;

(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (5.) the figures “£1,814” and inserting in their stead the figures “£2,053”; and

(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (5.) the figures “£1,660” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,899”.

Higher duties.

5. Regulation 66 of the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is amended—

(a)by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (3.) the figures “£1,058” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,083”;

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (3.) the figures “£904” and inserting in their stead the figures “£929”;

 

 (c) by omitting from paragraph (a)of sub-regulation (17.) the figures “£1,730” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,833”; and

(d)by omitting from paragraph (b) of sub-regulation (17.) the figures “£1,576” and inserting in their stead the figures “£1,679”.

(4.) Regulation 71 of the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (c) of sub-regulation (8.) the figures “£848” and inserting in their stead the figures “£858”; and

(b) by omitting from paragraph (d) of sub-regulation (8.) the figures “£694” and inserting in their stead the figures “£704”.

Salaries of officers of the Fourth Division.

7. Regulation 72 of the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is amended by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulations:—

“(4.) The rate of annual salary payable to an officer who occupies an office of Typist (Female) is the rate of salary ascertained in relation to the officer in accordance with Part III. of the Schedule to these Regulations by virtue of—

(a)the qualification of the officer; and

(b)the period of service of the officer or the age of the officer, whichever results in the higher rate of salary.

“(5.) For the purposes of the last preceding sub-regulation—

(a)an officer who occupies, on the day immediately preceding the date on which she attains the age of twenty-one years, an office of Typist (Female) shall be deemed to have completed on that date not less than four years’ service and five, six, seven and eight years’ service on the dates on which she attains the ages of twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four and twenty-five years respectively;

(b)an officer who has attained the age of twenty-one years before she is appointed, promoted or transferred to the office of Typist (Female) shall, on appointment, promotion or transfer be deemed to have completed not less than four years’ service and five, six, seven and eight years’ service, respectively, on the first, second, third and fourth anniversaries of her appointment, promotion or transfer; and

(c) “service” means—

(i) service in one or both of the positions of Typist (Female) Grade 1 or Typist (Female); and

(ii) proved typing and accounting machining experience or proved typing or proved accounting machining experience either within or without the Parliamentary Service.”.

The Schedule.

8. The Schedule to the Public Service (Parliamentary Officers) Regulations is repealed and the following Schedule inserted in its stead:—
