NORTHERN TERRITORY OF AUSTRALIA

PUBLIC SEAL ACT 1954

An Act to provide for a Public Seal of the Northern Territory and for other purposes

1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Public Seal Act 1954.

2Commencement

This Act shall come into operation on a date to be fixed by the Administrator by notice in the Gazette.

3Repeal

The Northern Territory Government Ordinance 1932 is repealed.

4Public Seal

There shall be a Public Seal of the Northern Territory, which shall be kept and used by the Administrator for sealing all things that pass the Public Seal.

5References to Public Seal, or Seal in law of the Northern Territory
  • (1)

    A reference in law of the Northern Territory to the Public Seal or the Seal of the Northern Territory shall be deemed to be a reference to the Public Seal of the Northern Territory kept by the Administrator in pursuance of this Act.

  • (2)

    Nothing in this Act shall affect the validity of a document which, before the commencement of this Act, has been sealed in accordance with the law of the Northern Territory with the Public Seal of the Northern Territory.

6Sealing of document issued without Seal
  • (1)

    Where a document, required to be sealed with the Public Seal of the Northern Territory, has not been sealed with that seal, the document may, at any time, be sealed with the Public Seal of the Northern Territory.

  • (2)

    Where a document is sealed with the Public Seal of the Northern Territory under this section, it is then deemed to be, and at all times to have been, properly sealed.
