An Act to amend the Public Place Names Act 1989, and for other purposes
Notified under the Legislation Act 2001 on 20 December 2002
(see Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory enacts as follows:
Name of Act
This Act is the Public Place Names Amendment Act 2002.
Commencement
This Act commences on the day after its notification day.
NoteThe naming and commencement provisions automatically commence on the notification day (see Legislation Act, s 75 (1)).
Acts amended
This Act (other than section 6) amends the Public Place Names Act 1989.
Section 6 amends the Districts Act 2002.
Minister to determine names
Section 3 (2)renumber as section 3 (3)
New section 3 (2)
insert
If the Minister is making a determination about the naming of a division, or the naming of a public place after a person mentioned in section 4 (2) (a) or (b), the Minister must consider—
(a)the number of women and men after whom divisions or public places have been named in the last 10 years; and
(b)whether the names of women are well-represented.
