Act No. 10, 1912.

An Act to sanction the erection of new offices for the Department of Public Instruction; and for purposes consequent thereon or incidental thereto. [4th April, 1912.]

WH E R E A S , in accordance w i t h the provisions of the Public

Works Act, 1900, the Legislative Assembly did, by resolution, declare that it was expedient to carry out a certain Work, namely, the erection of new offices for the Department of Public Instruct ion; And w h e r e a s on the passing of the said resolution, a statutory duty

w a s by the sa id Act imposed on the Secretary for Public Works to
introduce a Bill into t h e said Assembly to sanction the carrying out of the said work : Be it therefore enacted b y the King's Most Excellent Majesty, b y a n d with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of NEW South Wales in Parliament assembled, and b y the authority of t h e same, as fol lows :—

1. This Act m a y be c i t e d as t h e " Public Instruction Offices

Act, 1912."

2 .     The carrying o u t of the works, more particularly described

in t h e Schedule t o t h i s Act, is hereby sanctioned ; and the Secretary for Public Works, or the m e m b e r of the Executive Council for the
t i m e b e i n g performing t h e d u t i e s of t h e said Secretary, is hereby
authorised t o undertake a n d carry out the said works, subject to the provisions of t h i s Act, and for t h a t purpose shall be and shall have the powers a n d duties of a Constructing Authority within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1900.

3.    The plan of the s a id w o r k s is the plan marked " Department

sixty-five thousand one hundred and fifty pounds, may be defrayed from such loan votes as arc n o w , or may hereafter be, applicable to that purpose, or from appropriations of the Public Works Fund, or partly from such votes and partly from the said appropriations, and shall not, under any circumstances, exceed the estimated cost by more than ten per centum. of Public Instruction NEW Offices," signed by the Secretary for Public Works, and countersigned by the Acting Director of Public Works, and deposited in the public office of the said Secretary.

4 . The cost of carrying out the said works, estimated at

T H E site of the proposed buildings consist of a block of land with frontages to Bridge-

street , Loftus-stre. ' t , Young-street , and I Vnt-street, Sydney.

The huildings will consist of basement, ground lloor, first, second, third, fourth,

and fifth floors. The external design to be of stone and the general design of brick and

steel wi th reinforced concrete lloors, with few ornamenta l features.

The construct ion of the buildings throughout is of a tire-proof character .
