An Act to Make Provision for Public Holidays on T he P ublic H olidays the Occasion of the Visit to this State of (R oyal V isit ) A ct of 1953. Our Sovereign Lady, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second. [A ssented to 19 th N ovember , 1953.j E it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, B by and with the advice and consent of the Legis lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— Short title. 1. This Act may be cited as “ The Public Holidays (Royal Visit) Act of 1953.” Holidays to 2. (1.) Subject to this Act the Minister may, by RceoleybarlaVteisit. nobotsiefricvaetdioans ppuubblliischehdoliindatyhse in Ga c z o e n tt n e, ecatpiopnoiwntitdhatyhsetovisbiet to this State, in or about the month of March, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-four, of Our Sovereign Lady, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second. (2.) The aforesaid power of appointment shall include power in the Minister to, at his discretion— (a) Appoint, according as specified in the notification thereof published in the Gazette, a day, a part of a day, or parts of two or more days, and either additionally to or in lieu of any appointed day or days ; (b) Make different such appointments in respect of different localities in the State ; (c) Where such an appointment is made in respect of a locality, define that locality in the notification thereof published in the Gazette by reference to the Areas of Local Authorities or in any other manner sufficient in his opinion to identify it; (d) Where such an appointment is related to part of a day or parts of two or more days, define in the notification thereof published in the Gazette what period or periods respectively of that day or of those days shall constitute the part or parts in question thereof; and (e) By a further notification published in the Gazette, revoke any prior such notification and appoint, in lieu of any day or part of a

Public Holidays (Royal Visit) Act. day specified in the revoked notification, another day or part thereof: Provided that in the case of a prior such notification so revoked whereby more days than one or parts respectively of more days than one were appointed the appointment consequent on revocation may reappoint any of those days or parts of days. 3. The provisions of section ten of *“ The Holidays Application Acts, 1912 to 1935,” shall apply to and with respect to jfdeo/vf public holidays or part public holidays appointed as No. ij and such by the Minister under this Act and for that purpose I’acL^vf every appointment under this Act shall have force and No. 36 to effect as if made under that lastmentioned Act. holidays The provisions in respect of Labour Day .--f* uAncdt.er this subsection two of section ten of f“ The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Acts, 1932 to 1952,” shall also apply and extend to and with respect to public holidays or part public holidays appointed as such by the Minister under this Act and for that purpose those provisions shall have force and effect as if, as well as Labour Day, every such public holiday or part public holiday were specified therein. Provided that, where a public holiday or a part public holiday shall have been appointed by the Minister under this Act in respect of a locality then the application by virtue of this section of the provisions respectively of section ten of *“ The Holidays Acts, 1912 to 1935,” and, in respect of Labour Day, of subsection two of section ten of f“ The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Acts, 1932 to 1952,” to and with respect to that public holiday or part public holiday shall be limited to that locality. 4. (1.) Where subsequent to the passing of this Act j^rpreta' the provisions referred to in this Act of any other Act are n‘ amended or other provisions are enacted m their stead, then the reference in question shall be deemed to be to those provisions as so amended or, as the case may be, the other provisions so enacted. (2.) In and for the purposes of this Act the term “ Minister ” means the Secretary for Labour and Industry or other Minister of the Crown in right of this State for the time being discharging the duties of that office. * 3 G. 5 No. 17 and amending Acts, f 23 G. 5 No. 36 and amending Acts.
