Medical Conditions and Notifiable

Diseases) Regulation 2004

Public Health Act 1991

Her Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Public Health Act 1991.

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Public Health Act 1991:

(a)

to include Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) and smallpox:

(i)

in the list of medical conditions in Schedule 1 to the Act that must be notified by medical practitioners and laboratories to the Director-General of the Department of Health (the Director-General), and

(ii)

in the list of notifiable diseases in Schedule 3 to that Act that must be notified by the chief executive officers of hospitals to the Director- General, and

(b)

to include tularaemia in the list of medical conditions in Schedule 1 to that Act that must be notified by laboratories to the Director-General.

This Regulation is made under the Public Health Act 1991, including section 80 (1) and

(3) and section 82 (the general regulation-making power).

Medical Conditions and Notifiable Diseases) Regulation 2004.

The Public Health Act 1991 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.
