PUBLIC HEALTH ACT 1991-REGULATION
(Relating to scheduled medical conditions and notifiable diseases)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Public Health Act 1991 has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement
1. This Regulation commences on 17 March 1995.
Amendments
2. The Public Health Act 1991 is amended:
(a)
by inserting the word “Rabies” after the matter “Q fever” in Category 3 in Schedule 1;
(b) by omitting the word “Leprosy” from Category 4 in Schedule 1;
(c)
by inserting the word “Typhoid” after the word “Tuberculosis” in Category 4 in Schedule 1;
(d)
by inserting the word “Rabies” after the word “Poliomyelitis” in Schedule 3.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Public Health Act 1991 contains schedules of different medical conditions (including diseases) that require different responses (for example notification or taking of precautions against infection).
The objects of this Regulation are:
(a)
to include rabies in the Schedule 1 list of medical conditions that must be notified by laboratories and the Schedule 3 list of diseases that must be notified by hospitals;
(b)
to remove leprosy, and include typhoid, in the Schedule 1 list of conditions that may give rise to public health orders.
This Regulation is made under section 80 (Amendment of Schedules) of the Public
Health Act 1991.
