Public Health Act Amendment
(Notifiable Diseases) Regulation 1996

Public Health Act 1991
His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Public Health Act 1991.

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Public Health Act 1991:
(a)
to include Botulism, lead poisoning, Cryptosporidiosis and Verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli infection in the list of medical conditions in Schedule 1 that must be notified by laboratories and to remove Hydatid disease from that list, and
(b)
to include Botulism and Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome in the list of diseases in Schedule 3 that must be notified by hospitals and to remove Hydatid disease from that list.
This Regulation is made under the Public Health Act 1991, including section
82 (the general regulation-making power) and section 80.

1 Name of Regulation
This Regulation is the Public Health Act Amendment (Notifiable
Diseases) Regulation 1996.
2 Commencement
This Regulation commences on 1 December 1996.
3 Amendment of Public Health Act 1991
The Public Health Act 1991 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.

The explanatory note does not form part of this Regulation.

Schedule 1 Scheduled Medical Conditions
Insert the following in alphabetical order in Category 3:
Botulism
Cryptosporidiosis
Lead poisoning (as defined by a blood lead level of or
above 15 ug/dL)
Verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli infectionSchedule 1, Category 3
Omit “Hydatid disease”.
Schedule 3 Notifiable Diseases
Insert the following in alphabetical order:
Botulism
Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome
