Public Baths and Public Bathing (Amendment) Ordinance 1988

An Ordinance to amend the Public Baths and Public Bathing Ordinance 1956

Short title

1.  This Ordinance may be cited as the Public Baths and Public Bathing (Amendment) Ordinance 1988.1

Commencement

2.  This Ordinance commences on such date as is fixed by the Minister by notice in the Gazette.

Principal Ordinance

3.  In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Public Baths and Public Bathing Ordinance 1956.2

Insertion

4.  Before section 16 of the Principal Ordinance the following section is inserted in Part III:

Interpretation

“15A.  In this Part, ‘blind person’, ‘deaf person’, ‘guide dog’ and ‘hearing dog’ have the same respective meanings as in the Dog Control Ordinance 1975.”.

Offences

5.  Section 17 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting paragraph (m) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(m)cause or permit an animal belonging to, or under the control of, the person to enter or remain in—

(i)if the animal is a guide dog accompanying a blind person or a hearing dog accompanying a deaf person—a swimming pool in any public baths; or

(ii)in any other case—any public baths;”.

Power of removal

6.  Section 20 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting paragraph (d) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(d)     remove an animal from—

(i)if the animal is a guide dog accompanying a blind person or a hearing dog accompanying a deaf person—a swimming pool in the baths; or

(ii)in any other case—the baths.”.
