Legislative history

1—Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Public and Environmental Health (Notifiable Diseases) Regulations 1989.

2—Commencement

These regulations will come into operation on 7 December, 1989.

3—Interpretation

In these regulations—

the Act means the Public and Environmental Health Act 1987.

4—Notification of diseases

(2)For the purposes of section 30(1) and (4) of the Act, persons who are in charge of pathology laboratories are a prescribed class.

5—Notifiable and controlled notifiable diseases

(1)The following diseases are prescribed as notifiable diseases for the purposes of the Act:

Anthrax

Chlamydia Infection

Donovanosis

Haemolytic-uraemic Syndrome (HUS)

Human Immunodeficiency Virus

Infection caused by E.Coli capable of producing Shiga toxin

Invasive Pneumococcal Disease

Legionellosis

Lyssavirus Infection

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

Varicella-Zoster Infection.

(2)The following diseases are prescribed as controlled notifiable diseases for the purposes of the Act:

Human Immunodeficiency Virus

Lyssavirus Infection

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

Revocation of regulations

The Public and Environmental Health (Notifiable Diseases) Regulations 1989 were revoked by Sch 1 of the Public and Environmental Health (Notifiable Diseases) Regulations 2004 on 1.9.2004.
