B E it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— 1. (1.) This Act may be cited as “ The Public short title. Accountants Registration Acts Amendment Act of 1954.” (2.) * “The Public Accountants Registration Acts, Principal 1946 to 1949,” are in this Act referred to as the Principal ct‘ Act. (3.) The Principal Act and this Act may be Collective collectively cited as “ The Public Accountants Registration tltle' Acts, 1946 to 1954.” amen2d.edS— ection seventeen of the Principal Act is Aofms.en1d7m. ent (a) By repealing subparagraph (v.) of paragraph (c) of subsection one and by inserting, in lieu of that repealed subparagraph, the following subparagraph, namely :— “ (v.) He has passed— (i.) The examinations required by the University of Queensland for the Certificate in Accountancy of that University ; or (ii.) Where the Board is satisfied that examinations with respect to accountancy of a standard equal to the aforementioned examinations of the University of' * 11 G. 6 No. 4 and amending Acts. A

The examinations required by any institute, association or other body of accountants which is an approved institute of accountants for the purposes of this Act; or (iv.) The examinations which, when it subsisted, were required to qualify for membership of any institute, association or other body of accountants which, though no longer subsisting at the passing of *“ The Public Accountants Registration Acts Amendment Act of 1954,” was at some time theretofore an approved institute of accountants for the purposes of this Act, and, in every such case, has acquired such practical experience as the Board deems sufficient in accountancy work ; or ” ; (b) By repealing subsection (1 a ) ; (c) By repealing in subsection three the words* brackets and figures “ subparagraphs (iii.), (iv.), and (v.)”, and by inserting in lieu thereof the words, brackets, and figures “ subparagraphs (iii.) and (iv.)” ; and (d) By adding to that section the following subsection, namely:— “ (5.) The Board may if, at its absolute discretion* it thinks fit exempt a person from passing in any subject of either of the examinations specified in subparagraph (ii.) of paragraph (c) of subsection one of this section upon proof to the satisfaction of the Board that such person has passed an examination in that subject— (a) Of the University of Queensland or of a University situated in some State other than Queensland of the Commonwealth or situated elsewhere within the British Commonwealth of Nations ; (b) Of the Public Accountants Registration Board of the State of New South Wales or of any authority that may be established in any other State of the Commonwealth with functions similar to those imposed on the Board by this Act; * This Act.

Public Accountants Acts Amendment Act. i_ _ _ ;; ■ (c) Of an institute, association or other body of accountants which is an approved institute ■ of accountants for the purposes of this Act ' or which, though no longer subsisting at the . passing of *“ The Public Accountants Registration Acts Amendment Act of 1954,” was at some time theretofore an approved institute of accountants for the purposes , of this Act; ! ( d) Required, in respect of that subject, for ^ qualifying persons to practise as barristers or solicitors of the Supreme Court of this ' State or of any other State of the j Commonwealth, or of any other part of the I British Commonwealth of Nations ; or 1 ' (e) Required, in respect of that subject, for qualifying, or with respect to the training of, persons to engage in the business of j accountancy, or for entitling persons to , membership of an institute, association or other body of persons skilled in accountancy, in any state or country outside the ; Commonwealth of Australia (and whether ; within or without the British Commonwealth ' of Nations), t and that such examination is of a standard equal to that prescribed or otherwise required in respect of the j examinations specified in the aforesaid subparagraph : (ii.).”. j 3. Subsection one of section twenty-seven of the Amendment Principal Act is amended by repealing the wordsof a- 27 (i). j “ pursuant to the provisions of the last preceding section ” : and by inserting, in lieu of those repealed words, the I words “ pursuant to the provisions of section twenty-five ; of this Act 4. Rule twelve of the Schedule to the Principal Amendment Act is repealed and, in lieu of that repealed rule, theof Schedule. 1 following rule is inserted, namely :— : “ 12. The Board shall issue to every person who satisfies the Board’s requirements with respect to sitting for and passing either I such examinations as may be prescribed before examiners appointed ; by the Board or the examinations conducted by the University of t• Queensland on behalf of the Board, a certificate to the effect that he has done so.”. * This Act. \ I
