Protection of the Environment Operations Amendment (Waste Reduction) Act 2006 (NSW)

An Act to amend the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 with respect to a local council waste reduction scheme.

1Name of Act

This Act is the Protection of the Environment Operations Amendment (Waste Reduction) Act 2006.

2Commencement

This Act commences on the date of assent.

3Amendment of Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 No 156

The Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.

4Repeal of Act(1)

This Act is repealed on the day following the day on which this Act commences.

(2)

The repeal of this Act does not, because of the operation of section 30 of the Interpretation Act 1987, affect any amendment made by this Act.

Schedule 1Amendment

(Section 3)

Insert after clause 5:

5ALocal council waste reduction scheme(1)

The establishment and administration of a scheme for recycling, resource recovery and other reduction of waste by local councils.

(2)

The making of payments to local councils in accordance with the scheme from money appropriated by Parliament for that purpose.

(3)

Requirements that must be met by local councils to be eligible to receive payments under the scheme.
