under the

Legal Profession Further Amendment Act 2006

MARIE BASHIR, Governor I, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Legal Profession Further Amendment Act 2006, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 7 December 2006 as the day on which that Act (except section 4 and Schedules 2 and 3) commences.

Explanatory note

The object of this Proclamation is to commence certain provisions of the Legal Profession Further Amendment Act 2006, including provisions amending the Legal Profession Act 2004:

(a)

to revise the role and procedures of the Legal Profession Admission Board and remove the Board’s power to refer to the Supreme Court issues relating to the suitability of persons for admission to the legal profession, and

(b) to revise procedures relating to the Public Purpose Fund, and
(c) to abolish the Legal Profession Advisory Council, and

(d)

to extend the time for determining an application for the grant of a local practising certificate, and

(e)

to remove an unnecessary clause relating to barristers of the Australian Capital Territory and ensure terminology is consistent with the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 2005.
