periods of time and othcr persons may from time to time be sentenced by

the Supreme Court or othcr lawfld authority to undergo puniihilient of'a like

Governor for thc time being to make rule4 orders and regulations for the

em ,loymcnt and safe custoclr of such persdils and to a l p i n t such officers

assistants as may be necessary for the s$perintendence and saL custntly

of such persons with such remuneration as @J the said Governor shall seem

fit'and to appoint such places for the safe cu$ody of the said persons during

their intervals of labor as to him shall seen* fit and also to make with the advico of the Council such rules orders an? regulations as may be found useful or sec iiisite for ensuring propriety of cpnduct and due performance of

labor by suc b persons and puuishment in deil,'ault thereof and as to whether

the said persons shall be worked in chaius orjlot and to make all such other

orders rules and regulation3 BB may be nefessary to carry this Act into effect and the said orders rules and replatims to alter vary and revoke as occasion may or shall require.

Provided always and be it further enactkd that the +rson having the

charge of any Gaol or other place of confine@ent and whereih any offenders

may be sentenced to imprisonment shall nbt be responsible for the safe

-custody of prisoners during the time that shch prisoners may be removed from out of such Gaol or place of confinem t under the authority of this

Act.
