HEREt\S there are divers perao~rs nowin the common Caol of this
Province who have been sentenced to hard labor therein for various
periods of time and othcr personsmay from time to time be sentenced by
the Supreme Court or othcr lawfld authority to undergo puniihilientof'a like

Governor for thctime being to make rule4 orders and regulations for the
em ,loymcnt and safecustoclr of such persdilsand to a l p i n t such officers
of such persons with such remuneration as @J the said Governor shall seem

Provided always and be itfurther enactkd that the +rson having the
charge of any Gaol or otherplace of confine@entand whereihany offenders
may be sentenced to imprisonment shall nbtbe responsible for the safe
-custody of prisoners during the time that shch prisoners may be removed from out of such Gaol or place of confinem t under the authority of this
Act.
