PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS AMENDMENT

ACT 1997 No 83—PROCLAMATION

GORDON SAMUELS, Governor.

I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment Act 1997, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 1 February 1998 as the day on which that Act commences, except for the following provisions:

(a)

Schedule 1 [5], [29], [30] and [46]–[49],

(b)
so much of Schedule 1 [12] as as would insert section 8 (3) in the

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979,

(c)
so much of Schedule l [35] as would insert section 21C in the

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979,

(d)

so much of Schedule 1 [64] as would insert section 34A in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Proclamation is to commence most of the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment Act 1997. The amendments that are not commenced by this Proclamation relate to certain matters requiring regulations (eg prescribing types of electrical devices that cannot be used on animals and prescribing guidelines relating to the welfare of farm or companion animals) and to certain offences (eg prohibition of steeplechasing).
