REGULATIONS UNDER THE POST AND TELEGRAPH ACT 1901.

advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the undermentioned amended
Regulations under the
Postal Regulations.

to come into operation on the 19th day of October, 1907.

Postal Regulations.

Regulation 1 under this head is repealed, and the following Regulation substituted therefor:—
1. Packets of Printed Papers for transmission to the United Kingdom may not exceed 2 feet in length and 1 foot in width or depth except in the case of those sent in the form of a roll, when the maximum dimensions shall be—for Printed and Commercial Papers, 2 feet 6 inches in length and 4 inches in diameter, and for Samples 12 inches in length by 6inches in diameter. For other countries packets of Printed Papers may not exceed 18 inches in length, width, or depth. Such packets may not in any case exceed 5 lbs. in weight. They may be placed either in wrappers, upon rollers, between boards, in covers open at both sides or at both ends, or in unclosed envelopes, or simply folded in such a manner as not to conceal the nature of the packet, or tied with a string easy to unfasten, but must be made up in such a manner as to admit of the contents being easily withdrawn for examination. Address cards and all printed matter of the form and substance of an unfolded card may be forwarded without wrapper, envelope, fastening, or fold.
Regulation 3 under this head is amended by the addition of the following to the list of denominations of Postal Notes and the commission or poundage charged thereon, viz.:—
6d. under the heading “Denomination,” and ½d. under the heading “Commission” or “Poundage.”
General Postal Regulations.
Regulation 1under this head is repealed, and the following Regulation substituted therefor:—
1. Locked. Private Boxes may be rented at the General Post Office, and where provided at other post offices, on payment, in advance, of a fee o£
£ 1, £ 2, or£ 3per annum, according to the size of box required. In country towns where there is only one delivery daily by Letter Carrier, or no such delivery, the rental fee for a private box (small) shall be 10s. per annum if not less than 10 (small) private boxes are rented at the same office for a period of one year or more. In country towns where there are two or more deliveries daily by Letter Carrier, the fee shall be£ 1 per annum per box (small).
Telephone Regulations.
Transaction of business after usual office hours.
The Regulation under this head (made by Statutory Rules 1906, No. 114), is repealed, and the following Regulation substituted therefor:—
126. Arrangements may be made to keep any official or semi-official Telephone Office open for the transmission of telephone messages after the ordinary business hours, upon notice being given to the Officer in Charge, at least one hour before the ordinary time of closing, and upon payment of a deposit of 2s. 6d. for the first hour or portion thereof, and 1s. 6d. for every subsequent hour or portion thereof, during which it is desired the office shall be kept open. If more than one office is so kept open, these fees shall be payable in respect of each office. All telephone messages transmitted must be paid for at the usual rates.
