REGULATIONS UNDER THE POST AND TELEGRAPH ACT 1901-1974.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Post and Telegraph Act 1901-1974.

Amendments of the Postal Regulations  

Redirection of postal articles.

1. Regulation 99 of the Postal Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (3) the words “ An application ” and substituting the words “ Subject to sub-regulation (3a), an application ”; and

(b) by inserting after sub-regulation (3) the following sub-regulations:—

“ (3a) Sub-regulation (3) does not apply to an application for redirection, during the prescribed period, to an address in Australia of mail addressed to—

(a) an address in the Darwin area; or

(b) a person who, on or after 25 December 1974, changed his address from a place in the Darwin area to another address.

“ (3b) For the purposes of sub-regulation (3a), the prescribed period is the period from and including 25 December 1974 to and including 30 June 1975.”.

Holding of mail.

2. Regulation 99a of the Postal Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (5) the words “ An application ” and substituting the words “ Subject to sub-regulation (5a), an application ”; and

(b) by inserting after sub-regulation (5), the following sub-regulations:—

“ (5a) Sub-regulation (5) does not apply to an application to hold at a post office, during the prescribed period, mail addressed to—

(a) an address in the Darwin area; or

(b) a person who, on or after 25 December 1974, changed his address from a place in the Darwin area to another address.

“ (5b) For the purposes of sub-regulation (5a), the prescribed period is the period from and including 25 December 1974, to and including 30 June 1975.”.

Redirection of parcels.

3. Regulation 207 of the Postal Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1) the words “ On receipt ” and substituting the words “ Subject to sub-regulation (2a), on receipt ”;

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (2) the words “ The sender ” and substituting the words “ Subject to sub-regulation (2a), the sender ”; and

(c) by inserting after sub-regulation (2) the following sub-regulations:—

“ (2a) Paragraphs (1) (b) and (d) do not apply to redirection, during the prescribed period, to an address in Australia of a parcel addressed to—

(a) an address in the Darwin area; or

(b) a person who, on or after 25 December 1974, changed his address from a place in the Darwin area to another address.

“ (2b) For the purposes of sub-regulation (2a), the prescribed period is the period from and including 25 December 1974 to and including 30 June 1975.”.
