STATUTORY RULES.

1950. No. 93.

REGULATIONS UNDER THE POST AND TELEGRAPH ACT 1901-1949.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Post and Telegraph Act 1901-1949.

AMENDMENTS OF THE POSTAL REGULATIONS. 

Commencement.

1.—(1.) Regulation 2 of these Regulations shall come into operation on the first day of January, 1951.

(2.) Regulation 3 of these Regulations shall come into operation on the first day of December, 1950.

(3.) Regulation 4 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of May, 1950.

2. Regulation 131 of the Postal Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (1.) the figures " 3 0 0 ", " 2 0 0 " and " 1 0 0 " and inserting in their stead the figures " 6 0 0 ", " 4 0 0 " and " 2 0 0 ", respectively; and

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b)of that sub-regulation the figures " 1 10 0 ", " 1 0 0 " and " 10 0 " and inserting in their stead the figures " 2 0 0 ", " 1 10 0 " and " 15 0 ", respectively.

3. Regulation 213 of the Postal Regulations is amended by omitting the table from sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in its stead the following table:

4. Regulation 258 of the Postal Regulations is repealed and the following regulation is inserted in its stead :—

Payments to masters of vessels

" 258. The rates of payment to the master of a vessel for the conveyance of mails shall, except in the case of a master of a vessel under contract for the carriage of mails, be in accordance with the following table :—

Conveyance of—	Rate of Payment.
Letters and post cards in harbours and on rivers	Eight pence per pound
Mails (other than letters and post cards) in harbours and on rivers	One shilling and fourpence per hundredweight
Mails to places within the Commonwealth otherwise than in harbours and on rivers	Four shillings per hundredweight
Mails to places beyond the Commonwealth—
Where the mails are to be conveyed up to three thousand miles	Nine pounds one shilling and sevenpence per ton
Where the mails are to be conveyed over three thousand miles and up to six thousand miles	Seventeen pounds thirteen shillings and one penny per ton
Where the mails are to be conveyed over six thousand miles	Twenty pounds thirteen shillings and seven pence per ton ".
