An Act to amend the Postage Acts. [11th

March, 1857.]

WHEREAS pa r t i cu la r s hereinaf ter provided for Be i t therefore enacted

it is expedient to amend the Pos tage Acts in the

by the Queen ' s Mos t Exce l l en t Majes ty by a n d wi th t h e advice and
consent of t he Legis la t ive Counci l and Legis la t ive Assembly of N e w
Sou th Wales in P a r l i a m e n t assembled a n d by t h e au thor i ty of t he

same as follows :—

1 . One uni form ra t e of s ixpence for every half ounce or fraction

of half an ounce shal l be chargeable upon all le t ters and packe ts (not be ing wi th in any of t h e except ions created by law) posted for t r ans ­ mission to pa r t s beyond the Colony which said ra te shall in every case be prepa id by s tamps b u t no charge shal l be made for delivery or for in land carr iage of any le t ters received from parts beyond t h e Colony excep t ing on le t ters and packets a r r iv ing from abroad not duly posted u p o n which the above uni form r a t e of s ixpence for every half ounce or fraction of half ounce shall be chargeable .

parcels conta in ing notes orders or specie sent by or t o any bank or b a n k e r parcels conta in ing p a t t e r n s or samples of merchandise and

parce ls con ta in ing deeds conveyances affidavits or le t te rs of a t torney
shal l be charged wi th t he ord inary ra tes of pos tage payable on le t ters
a n d packe t s sent by or received in to any Pos t Office for t ransmiss ion
or delivery by the post a n y t h i n g conta ined in t h e e igh th section of
t he Ac t of Counci l fifteenth Vic tor ia n u m b e r twelve to t he cont ra ry
thereof no twi ths t and ing .
3. The powers given to t h e Governor and Execu t ive Counci l by

t h e first and second sections of t he A c t of Council e igh teen th Victor ia n u m b e r seventeen shal l ex tend to book parcels and i t shall be lawful

for t h e Governor w i t h t h e advice of t h e Execu t ive Counci l to m a k e such regula t ions in reference to t he definition and t ransmiss ion of such book parcels whe the r wi th in t h e Colony or to and from pa r t s beyond the Colony as t h e said Governor and Counci l shall deem m o s t con­ ven ien t a n y t h i n g in a n y former A c t to t h e con t ra ry thereof no twi th ­ s tand ing .
